Supporting Families in Need this Holiday Season

Post Date:11/15/2019

The holiday season has arrived, and RCPD and the Rancho Cordova Police Activities League host its annual Christmas in Cordova event on December 15th.

Christmas in Cordova is designed with the simple premise that “every child should have a present to open at Christmas.” More than 300 families will be supported this holiday season through the program.

The event features a “shopping mall,” where parents of children aged newborn to 17 select gifts for their children with the help of their own personal shopper. Then, each parent enters the toy-wrapping room where volunteers help wrap gifts, so they’re ready to be placed under the tree on Christmas day. The event also includes an arts and craft area for children to make gifts for their parents and a surprise visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

“Our officers look forward to Christmas in Cordova each holiday season,” said Sergeant Rich Merideth. “While we give back to families in need throughout the year, this event in particular allows us to serve our community and show how much we care by providing local children with Christmas gifts.”

You can make holiday wishes come true by donating new, unwrapped toys, as well as gift wrapping paper and supplies. Donations are accepted at:

  • Rancho Cordova Police Department, 2897 Kilgore Road, Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM, through Friday, December 13 (excluding holidays)
  • Rancho Cordova City Hall, 2729 Prospect Park Drive, Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM, through Friday, November 29 (excluding holidays)
  • Neighborhood Services Center, 2880 Gold Tailings Court, Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM, through Friday, November 29 (excluding holidays)

Volunteers are also needed to support the event as personal shoppers, gift wrappers, greeters and more.
